Questions schools ask us
Do parents need to create an account?
No. Everything parents need is on one public page — they just open the link or scan your QR code. Only school staff sign in, and each staff account can only reach its own school. Schools that want an extra layer can switch on a parent access code.
Is it a real app from the App Store?
It's an installable web app, so there's nothing to review or download. Parents tap 'Add to Home Screen' once and it behaves like a normal app icon — always up to date, with no app store approvals for you to manage.
Can it use our own branding?
Yes. Your logo, banner image and brand colours are applied across the whole app, and your logo becomes the icon parents see on their home screen. Parents experience it as your school's app, not ours.
How does the calendar stay up to date?
Import an ICS feed from your existing school website calendar and events sync in automatically. You can also add events by hand, and edit dates, times or details at any point after publishing.
What if we don't serve school dinners?
Turn the lunch section off in settings and it disappears from the parent homepage. Most sections work the same way, so you only show what's relevant to your school.
Where does the weather and traffic come from?
We use your school postcode to show forecasts for drop-off, lunch and home time, plus a live read on traffic around the school so parents know whether to leave early.
Can we send notifications?
Parents can opt in to push notifications for announcements, newsletter publication and extreme weather alerts. It's their choice per device, and they can switch it off at any time.
Who handles the advertising?
SchoolDayHub manages advertising centrally. Schools never sell, approve or place ads, and staff have no advertising controls in their admin area.
