SchoolDay is an information app for parents of the school. It shows school news, the calendar, lunch menus and term dates. It is not a pupil administration system and it holds no records about children.
Who is responsible
SchoolDay is provided by Minerva Creative, which acts as the data controller for the limited information described below (staff accounts, notification subscriptions and, with your permission, analytics). Your school remains the controller of the content it publishes in the app.
Information we collect from parents
Parents do not create an account, do not sign in, and are never asked for a name, email address, phone number or any detail about their child. The only information connected to a parent's device is:
- Your cookie choice and, where a school uses an access code, a flag that this device has been unlocked. Stored on your device only. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running the app securely.
- Push notifications — if you opt in, we store the anonymous subscription address your browser generates, along with the topics you chose. It cannot be used to identify you. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw by turning notifications off. Subscriptions are deleted when they stop working or when you unsubscribe.
- Analytics and advertising — only if you accept them in the cookie banner. Legal basis: your consent.
School staff accounts
Staff who publish content sign in with a work email address. We store that email address, an optional name and their permission level so the school can control who can edit content. Legal basis: performance of our contract with the school. Staff accounts are removed when the school asks us to remove them, and within 30 days of a school leaving the service.
How long we keep things
School content stays in the app while the school uses SchoolDay. Advert performance is kept as daily counts with no personal data. Notification subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe or the subscription expires. Your cookie choice lasts until you clear it or change it.
Who we share it with
We use trusted providers to run the service: hosting and database (Supabase, EU/UK region), Google (advertising and, with consent, analytics), an open weather forecast service, and browser push services operated by Apple, Google and Mozilla. Where data leaves the UK or EEA it is protected by the UK/EU standard contractual clauses. We never sell personal data.
Children
SchoolDay is written for parents and carers. It holds no records about children and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your personal data, to withdraw consent at any time (use cookie settings or turn notifications off), and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. Because we hold no identifying data about parents, there is usually nothing for us to retrieve or erase on your behalf.
Contact
Privacy questions about the app can be sent to privacy@minervacreative.co.uk. Questions about information the school itself holds should go to the school office.
